1 Travel Grants for Educational Purposes
Overview
Amount: up to $1,000
Total amount in fund: $35,000
Key Dates:
Funding deadlines for each application are different and occur when funding is depleted.
Description: Funds are available to assist faculty in attending meetings of learned societies, organized conferences and meetings to present original, creative, and educational work products to attendees.
Criteria:
- The meeting of learned societies, organized conferences and meetings must be education focused.
- UCSF faculty appointment must be at 50% or greater.
- Applications must be submitted at least four weeks prior to your planned meeting or conference.
- Award is for registration fee only. There will be no payments for airfare or hotel.
- Applicants may receive one grant in any 12 month period.
- Applicant must be attending to present original product showcasing educational work.
Application Process:
Applications must include:
- The Travel Grant Application Form - Educational Purposes.
- Signature of both the applicant and the Department Chair.
- Documentation of invitation or letter of acceptance to present educational materials or for conference attendance, a copy of conference announcement/invitations which includes information about the learned society and dates which match dates for which travel has been requested. Emailed documentation (pdf) is sufficient.
- Please describe the creative educational work that you will be presenting (1-2 sentences.)

2. Travel Grants for Research Presentations
Overview
Amount: $1,500
Total amount in fund: $35,000 ($17,500 available starting January 17, 2020, and $17,500 available starting May 1, 2020 for the second cycle.)
Description: Funds are available to assist faculty attend meetings of learned societies or organized conferences in order to present important results of original research.
Eligibility: UCSF Faculty in any series (Clinical X, In Resident, Ladder Rank, Adjunct, HS Clinical) and all ranks (Assistant, Associate, Full Professor) are eligible to apply for this travel grant.
- Faculty must be at least 50% time and cannot be WOS
- Non faculty academics including but not limited to Specialists and Professional Research Series are not eligible.
- Applicants may receive no more than one Chancellor’s Fund grant within any 12 month period.
- Applicant may not submit a separate application for another Chancellor’s Fund grant during the same cycle.
Criteria: The Academic Senate Committee on research will give preference to applications for speaking presentations. Requests for poster presentations require a justification of impact.
Eligible Expenses: The award must be used for conference fees, airfare, and/or lodging. Award for hotel limited by University of California Policy BFB-G-28. International travel is permitted under this funding opportunity.
Application Instructions:

- Complete the application form including obtaining a signature from the Department Chair or Division Chief.
- Include a budget with estimated costs of conference fees, airfare, and lodging.
- Include documentation of the invitation or letter of acceptance to present important results or research in applicable. If only traveling for the purpose of learning and development, include a copy of the conference announcement/invitation.
- Include a brief description of the presentation.
- Upload and submit your application and supporting documents via the Senate Service Portal.
- Complete the application form including obtaining a signature from the Department Chair or Division Chief.
