48th Annual Faculty Research Lecture in Basic Science
Awarded to Shaun Coughlin, MD, PhD
The Academic Senate is pleased to announce the selection of Shaun Coughlin, MD, PhD, as the recipient of the 48th Annual Faculty Research Lecture.
Each year this distinction proudly acknowledges the outstanding scientific achievements made by a member of the Academic Senate. Academic Senate members are asked to consider the contributions of their colleagues so that the University community may recognize their achievements.

Dr. Coughlin joined UCSF in 1984. He is Professor of Medicine, Professor of Cellular and Molecular Pharmacology and Director of the Cardiovascular Research Institute. He was elected to the National Academy of Sciences in 2004.
Dr. Coughlin has achieved international renown in the field of signal transduction via thrombin receptors. His groundbreaking work has led directly to new therapies for patients with unstable angina and acute myocardial infarction and he has, throughout his career, embraced the interaction between basic and clinical research. He is recognized as a respected and inspirational mentor as well as a scientist of consummate talent.
It is a great privilege for the Academic Senate to have the opportunity to honor his achievements with this prestigious award.
The lecture is open to the campus community and the general public.
