2nd Annual Distinguished Clinical Research Lecture

The Academic Senate is pleased to announce the selection of Neal L. Benowitz, MD as the recipient of the 2nd Annual Distinguished Clinical Research Lectureship.

Each year this distinction proudly acknowledges the outstanding clinical research achievements made by a member of the UCSF faculty.

Dr. Benowitz has been a member of the UCSF faculty for almost thirty years and holds appointments in the Departments of Medicine, Biopharmaceutical Sciences, and Psychiatry. He is Chief of the Division of Clinical Pharmacology in the Department of Medicine and Biopharmaceutical Sciences and Vice-Chair of the Department of Biopharmaceutical Sciences.

Dr. Benowitz has devoted the main effort of his research career to studying the human pharmacology of nicotine and is renowned for his pioneering research. He has been active in many national and international tobaccorelated health issues. He is extensively involved in the public health arena and has applied his basic research findings to public policy issues. Dr. Benowitz is the author of over 360 papers in scholarly journals and books. He has provided the scientific basis for understanding nicotine inhalation and is recognized as the premier authority in the world on the human pharmacology of nicotine. It is a great privilege for the Academic Senate to honor his achievements with this prestigious award.

The Distinguished Clinical Research Lecture will be given on Friday, October 25, 2002 at 3:30p.m. in Cole Hall on the UCSF Parnassus Heights Campus.
