5th Annual Distinguished Clinical Research Lecture
Awarded to R. Curtis Morris, Jr. MD & Anthony Sebastian, MD
The Academic Senate is pleased to announce the selection of R. Curtis Morris Jr. and Anthony Sebastian as co-recipients of the Fifth Annual Distinguished Clinical Research Lectureship for their shared preeminence in the field of patient oriented research related to hypertension, renal disease, electrolyte and acid-base physiology, vitamin D and mineral metabolism, and nutrition. Both are renowned for their success in shaping the direction of clinical research in multiple areas.
Since 2001, this award has been bestowed on an individual member of the UCSF faculty with outstanding achievements in clinical research. Nominations are made by UCSF faculty, who consider the clinical research contributions of their colleagues and submit nominations for this prestigious award to the Academic Senate Committee on Research. Each year, the Committee on Research selects the recipient of this award. This year, the Academic Senate is honored to recognize the joint achievements of Drs. Morris and Sebastian.

Dr. Morris joined the UCSF faculty in 1964, after completing his Residency and tenure as a research physician here. He currently holds appointments as Professor of Medicine, Pediatrics, and Radiology.
Dr. Sebastian joined the UCSF faculty in 1971, after completing his Residency and tenure as a research physician here. He currently holds an appointment as Professor of Medicine and Associated Faculty in the General Clinical Research Center. Additionally, he is Managing Editor of The GCRC Journal.
Dr. Morris and Dr. Sebastian are widely respected by UCSF faculty and students alike – they are outstanding collaborators, exceptional teachers, dedicated mentors, and extraordinary clinicians. Their contributions to both clinical research and education are remarkable.
The Fifth Annual Distinguished Clinical Research Lecture will take place on Wednesday, October 12, 2005 at 3:30 p.m. in Cole Hall on the Parnassus Heights Campus and will be broadcast to other UCSF sites as availability permits. Drs. Morris and Sebastian will each present aspects of their work. The lecture is open to the campus community and the general public.
