2026-2027 Clinical Excellence Awards Call for Nominations

Please nominate a colleague whose clinical work deserves recognition. The Academic Senate created the Clinical Excellence Awards to recognize the tremendous clinical contributions UCSF faculty make alongside their work in research, education, and service. Recognizing this work makes it more visible and helps reinforce its importance across UCSF. The nomination process is short and straightforward: complete a brief form, submit a supporting letter of no more than two pages, and obtain endorsement from the nominee’s Department Chair or Division Chief. Take a few minutes to nominate a colleague and help us recognize the clinical excellence that strengthens UCSF every day.

Eligibility: This award is open to all UCSF-appointed faculty (across all series, levels of seniority, schools, and practice sites) who are actively practicing clinical care. This includes volunteer faculty and faculty with appointments below 100%. There are 12 awards:1 for an Assistant, Associate, and Full Professor at each of the 4 schools.  At least one nominator must be a faculty member who can make a strong assessment of the nominee’s clinical skills. Other members of clinical teams may join the nomination.

Nomination Process:

  1. Identify a nominee and potential co-nominators.
  2. Fill out the simple nomination form found below.
  3. Write a supporting letter of no more than 2 pages. If there are multiple nominators, one nomination letter should be written and signed by all nominators. Signatures do not count toward the 2-page limit.
  4. Get the nomination endorsed by the nominee’s Department Chair or Division Chief. The endorsement can be in the supporting letter or in an email from the Chair/Chief.
  5. Submit the nomination form, supporting letter, and Chair/Chief endorsement using the Senate Service Portal at https://senateserviceportal.ucsf.edu/v3/award/nominate by 11:59 PM on 10/31/26. The Senate Clinical Affairs Committee plans to select recipients at its 12/7/26 meeting.

What We Look for in Nominees:

  • Excellent clinical acumen, including diagnostic acumen, clinical expertise, and ability to expertly counsel patients/families.
  • Someone who seeks to expand their knowledge in service of clinical care.
