Special Faculty Voting Rights Edition
In this special edition of the Senate Check Up, learn how the UCSF Academic Senate is advocating to expand voting rights and membership to HS Clinical and Adjunct Faculty series systemwide. On November 4, all UCSF faculty will receive an email to vote on two Memorials to the Regents. Hear from Chair Steve Hetts, MD, why this is a crucial step toward inclusivity and giving all faculty a voice in shared governance. Voting will remain open until November 18. Learn more at senate.ucsf.edu/voting-rights.
More than a decade ago, UCSF expanded its local Senate to include HS Clinical and Adjunct Faculty series, which has allowed talented faculty members like Jenny Liu, PhD, MPP, to serve. Learn more about Liu's outstanding impact as the former chair of the Committee on Faculty Welfare, including her role in the faculty time use study, which documented, evaluated, and quantified faculty time spent on various university-related activities, with a focus on the often-unrecognized 'invisible work' and systematic disparities affecting women and underrepresented individuals in health professions.

UC Legislative Update
Created by UC Board of Regents Standing Order 105, the UC San Francisco (UCSF) Academic Senate is empowered to exercise direct control over such academic matters as admissions for degrees and curricula, which are of central importance to the University. The UCSF Division of Academic Senate provides an independent forum to discuss faculty-related campus wide academic concerns. In other areas, the Senate exercises an active advisory role. The Academic Senate works within the larger body of UCSF, a leading university dedicated to promoting health worldwide through advanced biomedical research, graduate-level education in the life sciences and health professions, and excellence in patient care.
