RE: Academy of Medical Educators -- Summary of Distinctive Educational Effort

Dear Dr. Cooke

The Committee on Academic Personnel has reviewed and discussed the examples provided by the Academy of Medical Educators for summary of distinctive educational effort. The Committee feels that summaries such as these would be a good supplement to what CAP currently receives and that they make clear some issues that are often vague and ambiguous. Thus, their inclusion in faculty files forwarded for merit or promotion would be welcome. In addition, the Committee feels that these types of teaching summaries could serve as good models for all of the professional schools. CAP encourages the Academy to make these sample summaries available to faculty campus-wide (e.g., on a website or through some other mechanism). Their use would aid CAP in evaluating teaching, mentoring and education scholarship across campus.

Thanks for the opportunity to review and comment on these summary examples. Please let us know if you have any questions or we can be of further assistance.

Sincerely,

Committee on Academic Personnel
